PermaLink To blog or not to blog 10/01/2007 03:24 PM
has been the question for me, and as you know I have taken my time to make up my mind.

It has not been easy.
In 1996 when Todd and I launched The Akhal-Teke Network web site and the mailing list we got to know so many nice people that we today consider to be some of our best friends. The online discussions were often interesting and educational, all of us participating learned and shared our experiences. Of course we did not always agree but still we did have many very stimulating discussions, and for many years ahead I considered the online communities an excellent way of sharing knowledge as well as ups and downs with your Tekes.

Like every society though, the online society changes, for the last three years I have seen to many discussions ending up in personal attacks, libel and bullying. New phenomena like "trolls" people that take on several different online identities to promote their own agendas, ignorant participators that accuse instead of ask etc. I guess all of you have followed at least one or two threads on this blog that has really sunken to a level that neither this breed nor me, or my work with Tekes deserve.
I love to discuss the breed and I really enjoy sharing my experiences and learning from other. However, the bad after taste from every time a discussion sinks to the gutter level has still overshadowed the joy of being a member of an online community like a blog or a mailing list.

I would like to thank all of you that have contributed with brain and heart on my blog. Overall it has been a great experience but for me it is time to move on.

My engagement in this breed is as strong as ever, never hesitate to email or call me with news or just for a chat. I love to talk about the heavenly breed.

So farewell my friends, and good luck with all your Teke plans and prospects.

And do not forget to send me an email every now and then, otherwise I will feel to lonely.
