PermaLink Rosanna cover girl for Breyer 12/20/2006 08:38 AM
Breyer Model Horses are releasing a new Akhal-Teke model with Rosanna as the cover girl.

For some time we had hopes that Breyer would release a completely new model based on the fantastic pictures Dwaine Snyder took of Rosanna last winter. However, Breyer decided to use an old model but add the amazing color of Rosanna as well as her portrait on the box of the model.
Here is the picture of Rosanna that Breyer will be using

more photos by Dwaine Snyder from our stud farm can be found at http://equestrianimages.smugmug.com

BTW I overheard Rosanna talking to her best friend Merdjen last night about hiring an agent now.

I had heard about the Teke Breyer Model that they are making...glad to know they will be using a pretty horse for the model...all the Teke models Ive ever seen don't do the breed jsutice...(They havent been very pretty in the past). I have already contacted the tack store I use to work for in FL (Whip-n-spur....or whipnspur.com) to let them know to try to get the model in so I can order it from them. I like to stay loyal to them even though I am no longer in FL. They do orders and I end up saving $$ through them anyways since they still let me have my discount :)

So yay! they are using a pretty horse for the model. :) I will definitly be ordering one for myself when they come out!

I've asked for the local tack shop here in Ladner (BC, Canada) to make sure they get some in as well. I'm going to buy one for my daughter's birthday (humm, or is it a gift for both of us?!)

I must admit I was not aware of the quality and popularity of the Breyer horses when they contacted us last summer.
However after they had been in touch I suddenly saw Breyer horses everywhere! It seems like they are sold in many tack stores. I wish there had been Breyer horses in Sweden when I was a kid, I would have bought all of them, I loved and lived with the scarce model horses I could get hold of. So another question, being new to this culture, is it ok for a middle aged, but still horse crazy woman to buy and collect Breyer models?

I think it is totally OK. I still own all of my old models from when I was a kid. I would get a new one for Christmas and my birthday each year. Now I only buy one if it's "special" to me... Like a real life horse I really liked...like Gem Twist...which I dont have a model of for some reason. The tack store I use to work for in FL usually has a good selection of them. There was a children's DR office next to it so we would get a lot of kids stopping by. The manager of my shop wanted to have something for them so she always had a BUNCH of breyers in the store.

Some people even SHOW them....like real horses....but they are fake. They make their own tack and everything for them. They get judged on how realistic their set-up is...and if it goes with the class they are in....like a jumper horse should have jumper tack...not western stuff. Ive never done it but I know there are people who get WAY into it. There are live shows...and also photo-based classes too.

Jessica D, sounds like it's ok for me to buy one or two then! Where is your old tack store located? Did Breyer do a model of Secretariat? If so I want him.
If the models are used to imitate the real horse world I hope that the latest Teke model will create awareness about the Teke breed, that's cool. Maybe the kids will get the model and then dream about having a real Teke when they get older.

I don't get it: does Breyer make paintings or sculptures?

Congratulations, Rossana!

Jessica, If you cant make it to Tampa (where my store is at) You can call them and they will do orders for you...They send out catalogs every year so they do a lot of over the phone and internet orders as well as the usual tack-shop sales. Breyer DID make a few models of Secretariat! Im not sure if you would be able to get your hands on one though....The original was made years ago...and they no longer sell it....and they had a special run with a blanket of flowers he came with...and I dont think they distribute those either...but you might find one on Ebay! :)

But here is their contact info:
1.800.944.7677

14434 North Dale Mabry Highway
Tampa, Florida 33618

Blanca, Breyer creates model horses....they are like sculptures...painted to look like real life horses.

I have one of the smallest models they make....and I re-painted him to look like my pony :) (Just make sure the model you have isnt worth any $$ before you do anything to it though...some Breyers are VERY collectible!)

Here are some examples of Breyer Horses

And Seattle Slew (This is also the model I THINK they will be using for the Akhal-Teke.)
