PermaLink Breed show in Kentucky September 9 to 10 08/23/2006 03:24 PM
There will be a breed show of Akhal-Tekes arranged by the Akhal-Teke Association of America held at the Kentucky Horse Park on September 9 to 10

The breed show will be arranged during the Special Guest Breed Weekends arranged by Kentucky Horse Park.
According to information I have that might be outdated though, there will be some filming as well for a commercial about the Teke breed that is arranged by a few breeders privately.
The company "Horse Flicks" will film a commercial that is paid by the breeders that want their farms and horses to be filmed as well as an intro to the breed.
Maybe a weekend at Kentucky Horse Park will give us an occassion to see some of the best Tekes in the US modelling for the commercial?

I contacted the Kentucky Horse park for the breed presentation program, there will be breed presentations at 11 am and 2 pm Saturday and Sunday. The Tekes will also be stabled in a barn open to the public the whole weekend.
According to Kentucky Horse Park there will be 10 Tekes shown.

Todd has been very grumpy over not being able to go to Russia in August, however, finally I managed to talk him into goint to the Teke Show in Kentucky instead. He will bring his camera so for those of you who cannot attend there will be pictures of the Tekes published here.

I am looking forward to visiting the Kentucky Horse park as well as for the first time see Kentucky and Lexington.

It would be nice to meet you there as well Jessica and Heather!

Jessica, Do you know what Tekes will be there or where they are coming from?

It will be my first time to the park as well...Ive never been but have always wanted to. Hubby was unfortunately not able to get that weekend off...though I am still trying to make it...I just have to find a friend who wants to go with me :) I'll also be bringing a camera too!

You guys will love the Horse Park! It's great for any horse lover. We always travelled right past it to see family, and I've been there 3 or 4 for times, but it's been years. I think I was in middle school the last time I was there.
I would also like to know who will be showing at the event. Anyone we "know"? I'm not positive I'll make it (we have a big huge wedding to attend just a couple weeks later and I'm hording money to buy a house next summer... I hope), but I'm REALLY going to try and be there! Anyone who does go should try to get together. It's always good to make Teke connections!
Heather

Heather. I'm sure there will be some really nice pure breds to be shown as only ten horses will perform I guess the ATAA picked the best that could travel to Kentucky. This is really an opportunity to show the breed to the public, the fact that also a commercial about the breed will be filmed at site ensures that we will be presented with some really good Tekes. I am looking forward to the event! Hopefully it will boost the interest in the heavenly breed.

Pieter, 199? purebred stallion, Madras x Piroshka, owned by Terri Fender, MN.

Unknown number of horses owned by April Pruente of Raymore, MO. Possibly Krosna, 199? purebred mare by Serasker, and others.

Darkh Amber, 2004 halfbred filly by Gindarkh 13, owned by Shirley Schulz of FL

Flashback, 2004 purebred colt, Pieter x Miranda, owned by Terri Fender of MN.

2 purebred stallions owned by Anne-Marie Rasch of MI, likely to be Salam, 2000 purebred stallion, Maksut x Sajathanum, and either Metman or Magnatli, both purebred stallions.

2 purebred stud colts by Gindarkh 13, owned by myself.

Thank you for the info Allegra. It will be really interesting to see a group of offspring from Gindarkh.
What about Mergen, can't you bring him as well, he should be a nice Teke to show under saddle?

9. Allegra Steck08/26/2006 10:50:14

HI Jessica,

I would have liked to take Mergen also, but he kicked in the trailer on his last trip to the breeding clinic, and won't be sound in time for the exhibition. It is not permanent, but I won't take an unsound horse. And the mares are either too old or not far enough along in their gestation to risk a 9-hour haul. So it is the young healthy boys.

Looking forward to seeing you and Todd,
Allegra

Jessica,

I forgot to add, Goklen will be there as he will be in the area competing. Also possibly a mare of Max Ots's breeding may come with him, but I can't remember which mare.

I'm sorry to hear about Mergen's injuries. Let's hope he recovers completely. Have you showed him this year?
Also thank you for the additions to the list, it look like we will see at least a few Tekes under saddle.

12. Allegra Steck08/27/2006 21:22:32

HI Jessica,

Mergen's injuries are not extensive, he just scraped up the bulbs of his heels and his coronet band. It will grow out just fine. But he is ouchy and I haven't been riding him.

He did not compete any this year. I sent him to an endurance rider in the fall for training, but he had enough mares this season that he had to come home for breeding this spring. But she liked riding a purebred Teke so much she bought one of our purebred colts as an endurance prospect, and bred her Arabian mare to Mergen for another one, so it turned out well anyway.

Fortunately, Anne-Marie Rasch was able to fill in with her stallions, who can be shown under saddle, so it all worked out fine.

Allegra

Allegra,
I was very pleased to hear that your horse was sent to an endurance rider for training. That is the source of my primary interest in the breed, but I do not often come across individuals familiar with the breed. Did Mergen participate in any races during his training? And if so, what were his results, if you don't mind me asking. I have always been involved with OTHER people's horses, but I want my own for endurance, and so far, I feel like the Akhal-Teke can't be beat for distance work.

Sorry to hear about his unfortunate injuries, but it sounds like he will recover well. I'm still not certain if I'll be attending the Kentucky show, but if so, I look forward to meeting you!

Heather

Allegra. I was so curious to see how Mergen would develop under Bent Jensen, wasn't the plan the he would train Mergen and show him in dressage during this summer?
What made you change your mind about his dressage career?
